Author Interview: Tony Thorne

An author interview with Tony Thorne, author of Points of View.

Buy Points of View.

For the record, what is your name and what is the title of your latest book?

My (pen) name is Tony Thorne MBE, and my latest published novel is POINTS OF VIEW (Eternal Press, Santa Rosa, CA), but I have just completed its first sequel, THE WEAPONS, and am well into the next.TTMBE

How did you get started writing? What is it that made you want to be a writer?

I began writing soon after I started school and had learned enough English to be able to do it. Much later in life now, I know now that it’s a craving to be recognized that drives me on; the rewards if any, come second.

If an unpublished author asked you to give them one piece of advice, what would it be?

If you have the gift for it, then never give up.

If you could only publish in a single genre, what would it be? Why?

Speculative Fiction, the ‘what if’ kind, but mostly SF.

Why should readers read your book?

I hope they’ll be entertained, and then think, ‘Well why not?’

Who is your favorite author of all time and who is your favorite author writing now?

It has to be Harry Harrison, the legendary SF writer who actually discovered me, later in life. Since Harry died last year, I’m into Stephen Baxter now.

Do you think ebooks should be protected by Digital Rights Management (DRM)?

Yes of course!

Writers need all the protection they can get nowadays.

If you could improve any single aspect of yourself (physical, mental, whatever), what would it be?

I’d like to be about twenty years younger, physically that is.

What question do you wish I had asked that I did not?

This one! Which do you prefer, traditional publishing, or Do It Yourself POD..? You need both today, especially if you’re just starting out.

However, the former is becoming more and more difficult, without an agent, and the self-publishing route soon turns into a time consuming promotional quagmire. However, we are in a period of drastic changes, and anything can happen.
